Crete is one of the best known Greek islands and among the largest in the Meditteranean. Birthplace of the oldest western civilisation known as Minoan and monuments of which have been preserved until today. Cutting through the mountains are a labyrinth of gorges, the most famous and longest in Europe is the Samaria Gorge. Today, those same paths account for a part of the E4 International European Trekking Path.
Path E4 begins from the Pyrenees Mountains, crosses the Alps and crossing all Greece reaches in the Kasteli of Crete and finishes in the Zakro. The ways that it can follow the visitor beginning from Omalos are the following:
